Gun Powder

Almost everything that fires or explodes is built from it. Bullets, shotgun shells, grenades, rockets and the explosives behind C4 all start as a pile of gun powder, so it is really your sulfur in the form you spend it.

You mix it from charcoal and sulfur at a Level 1 workbench, and every player knows the recipe from the start, so it never holds you back. The farm does. A night of sulfur runs turns into powder slowly, and every craft queue you start fights the next one for it.

That is the real decision. Say it is day two and your group sits on a few thousand sulfur. Spend it on 5.56 ammo and you win the next fights at your door. Save it, and in a few days it becomes a raid. Most groups split it: a fixed stack for PvP, the rest locked away for boom and not touched.

Gun powder also comes back from the recycler when you break down ammo and explosives you will never use. That odd stack of looted pistol rounds is worth more than it looks.
