Overview

In-game description
A rock containing sulfur. The sulfur can be extracted using a furnace.

Farm it when you plan to blow something up, because that is where nearly all of it ends up. A furnace turns it into sulfur, and sulfur plus charcoal becomes gunpowder: the base of every explosive and most ammo.

Sulfur nodes are the yellowish rocks, mixed in with metal and stone across the map. Clearing them fast is the whole game here. A salvaged icepick gets more out of each node than the metal pickaxe, and over a raid's worth of farming that extra turns into a few more rockets. If you own a mining quarry, put it on a good sulfur spot and it keeps digging while you do something else.

Smelting gives you two things at once. The furnace burns wood to melt the ore, and the wood turns into charcoal, the other half of the gunpowder recipe. A group that smelts sulfur all night wakes up with both ingredients ready.

Watch out

A full bag of sulfur ore is the best thing a roamer can find on your body. Make several short trips home instead of one greedy run, and never farm the field next to someone else's base at night with your whole raid budget on your back.
