Overview

In-game description
Round solid ammo for the cannon

Cannonballs exist to feed a cannon, and the cannon mostly lives on the deck of a player-built ship. So the honest first question is whether you have a boat worth defending. If the answer is no, these can wait.

If you do, they decide naval fights. Two crews circling each other off the coast are trading shots at hulls and decks, not at faces, and a solid ball is how you make the other ship slow down and eventually sink. Someone on board should be doing nothing but loading and firing while the others steer and shoot back.

The cannon is not known for accuracy, so balls are easy to waste on long shots that miss. Craft a modest batch from metal fragments and gunpowder, load them once the enemy ship is close enough to hit reliably, and keep your rifles for the people on deck.

If you are still building the ship itself, the boat building station comes first.
