Ammunition

5.56 Rifle Ammo

The ammo almost every real gun in the game runs on. Once you can craft it, the question becomes how much gunpowder you're willing to burn.

Overview

In-game description
Ammunition for a Rifle. Loses velocity when fired over long distances resulting in slightly decreased damage.

This is what your rifles eat. The semi-automatic rifle is usually the first gun people feed it, and from there it carries you through the AK, the bolt and most of what comes out of a locked crate. If you are fighting with guns rather than bows, you are almost certainly burning 5.56.

Crafting it needs a Level 2 workbench, which is the point where most groups stop relying on scavenged ammo. After that the limit is gunpowder. A long online raid or a busy evening at a monument can eat through boxes of it, so a group that farms sulfur keeps a mixing table busy.

The bullet loses speed over long distances and hits a bit softer for it. Up to normal fighting range nobody will notice. For pinning someone across a valley with a bolt, HV rounds fly faster and drop less, though they eat more gunpowder per round.

Tip

Don't craft it the moment you place the bench. Rifle ammo with no rifle to shoot it is gunpowder that could have gone into something you can use tonight.
