Overview
An armored hatch that opens and changes into a ladder.
Where the floor is armoured and you still need a way through it, this hatch goes in. Closed, it is part of the floor; opened, it turns into a ladder, so you get between floors or onto the roof without a stairwell eating a whole room.
The price is steep. Each one wants 35 high quality metal, more than an armoured door, plus six gears and a wooden ladder, all at a Level 3 bench. Learning it is the cheap part: 60 scrap, half of what the door costs. And the recycler only sometimes gives the ladder back.
- Build a square floor frame where the hatch should go.
- Place the hatch in it and put a code lock on it, as on any door.
- Open it with E, climb through and close it behind you.
Why not the regular ladder hatch? It costs frags instead of HQM, but it is the softer piece. Picture a raider on your armoured roof with a couple of charges: he will not blow the floor, he will blow the hatch. On a stone or sheet metal roof the cheap hatch is fine. A triangle floor frame takes the triangle version instead.

Direct hit, hard side, no duds. Satchel Charge is a dud 20% of the time. Beancan Grenade is a dud 15% of the time.
