Overview
A floor grill must be placed in floor frames. Perfect for placing above a large furnace.
Use it wherever you want to watch a room from above. A grill drops into a floor frame instead of a solid floor, so you can stand on it, look straight down and put bullets through the gaps.
The classic spot is the ceiling over your airlock or front door. Raiders crouch at the door with their satchels, and you are a floor up, firing through the grill while they still have to think of looking up. The game itself suggests laying one over a large furnace, which has to stand on terrain: a grill walkway above it keeps the upper floor usable without sealing the furnace away.
Watch out
The gaps work both ways. Anyone below can shoot up at your feet just as well, so keep grills off the ceiling of your loot room and do not stand still on one mid-fight.
You need the frame first: place a floor frame with the building plan, then fit the grill into it. The grill costs 75 metal fragments at a Level 1 workbench, cheap enough to lay a whole balcony of them on wipe day.
