Traps

Snap Trap

A metal jaw you hide in the grass: it can kill a fresh spawn on its own and goes back in your pocket after it fires. The gear is the real price.

Overview

In-game description
A metal trap that can injure or even kill people when stepped on. Can be picked up after been triggered.

Hide it where people stand still or walk without looking down. Of the cheap traps it is the one that can finish a fresh spawn by itself, and once it has gone off you walk over, pick it up and set it again.

A good spot is the hemp patch beside your base. Roamers crouch in that grass to pick it and take shots at your windows, and the jaw sits low enough to vanish there. The corner where someone usually waits to door-camp you works the same way.

It costs one gear and 50 metal fragments at a Level 1 workbench. The frags are nothing. The gear is the problem on day one, because half the useful deployables want gears too and you only get them from crates and recycling. So set two in good places rather than ten at random.

Watch out

A geared player spots an open jaw on bare ground and shoots or hits it to spring it from a safe distance. Out in plain sight it only catches people who are sprinting.

It also does nothing once someone is inside, and it never stops a raid. For a doorway you want covered every single time, a shotgun trap keeps firing as long as it has shells.
