Overview
A floor grill must be placed in floor frames. Perfect for placing above a large furnace.
Grab it when the hole you want to see through is a triangle. Triangle foundations and floors show up all over modern bases, in honeycomb, in stair towers, in the odd corner of a compound, and a square grill simply does not fit those frames.
A typical case: your stairs wind up a triangle core, and the floor above the top step is a triangle frame. Lay this grill there and you can fire down the stairwell at anyone climbing toward your loot. On a peek tower it does the same job over a narrow entrance.
The price is the odd part. It takes 75 metal fragments, the same Level 1 bench and the same 30 scrap of research as the square floor grill, while covering less floor. So use the square one wherever the layout lets you, and save this one for spots only a triangle can fill.
Like the square version, it goes into a floor frame you place first with the building plan. Most bases need two or three at most, so craft them once the frames stand instead of filling a box in advance. The rest of the base pieces are in the Construction list.
