In-game description

An enclosure to keep some chickens around. Chickens with plenty of food, water and sunlight produce more eggs.

The coop turns food from something you hunt into something you farm. Hens in it lay eggs, and the game spells out the deal: plenty of food, water and sunlight means more eggs. An egg left in the coop can hatch into a new hen, so one lucky find slowly grows into a small flock.

Craft it at a Level 1 workbench; research costs only 15 scrap.
Place it outside, where it gets sun but still sits inside your walls.
Put an egg in and let it hatch.
Keep food and water topped up, or run water in from a small water catcher.

Placement is where people lose their hens. Sunlight rules out your core, so the coop ends up in the open, and any roamer with a bow can pick birds off over a low wall. Build it in a walled compound, not beside the road.

Eggs are worth more cooked into something than eaten raw. The game itself says to save them for a recipe, which means a trip to the Cooking Workbench. And mind the single rope in the recipe: early in a wipe it is the one part you may have to go and find.

Direct hit, hard side, no duds. Satchel Charge is a dud 20% of the time. Beancan Grenade is a dud 15% of the time. A range runs from point blank to the far end of the bullet's falloff, fired from an Assault Rifle.
