Overview

In-game description
An egg laid by a chicken, will hatch in a coop. Can be eaten raw but best saved for a recipe.

Most eggs should not be eaten on the spot. Each one can go three ways: back into a chicken coop to hatch into another hen, into a recipe at the Cooking Workbench, or straight into your mouth. The game text itself says you can eat it raw but it is best saved for a recipe.

Early on, hatching wins. Two hens lay slowly, and every egg you put back becomes a bird that lays as well. Say you have just built the coop and the first eggs show up after a day of farming. Eat them and you stay at two hens; put them back and the coop starts paying for itself.

Once the coop is full, the eggs pile up and the recipes take over. Keep the hens fed, run water in from a small water catcher, and set a stack aside for cooking. A raw egg is the emergency snack for when there is truly nothing else in the box.

Which dishes call for eggs is not shown on this page, so look at the recipe before you hoard a stack.
