Overview

In-game description
A Large, wide beam, aimable light source.

Night on a farm compound is when people come for the planters and the furnaces standing out in the yard. From a roof bunker you see shapes, not players. Put a search light up there, take hold of it and sweep the beam across the yard, and whoever is crouched between the high walls is suddenly standing in daylight.

The game text calls it a large, aimable light with a wide beam, and that is the difference from a spot light: the spot gets pointed once with a hammer and stays, the search light moves live while someone mans it. It needs power like the other lamps. If your roof runs on panels, remember that a large solar panel gives nothing at night, so the line has to come through a battery or from a small generator.

The cost is steep for a lamp: a Level 2 workbench, 200 metal fragments, 500 wood and 30 scrap to research. And the beam works both ways. Everyone around can see where it comes from, so whoever holds it is the easiest target on the roof.
