Overview
Trade your goods with other players safely by creating sell and buy orders. If a raider gains access to the rear panel, they will have free reign over all of your goodies. Keep it safe.
Turn your surplus into scrap while you sleep. You set the orders, fill the machine and log off; a passing player pays what you asked and walks away with the goods, and nobody ever opens a door. A drop box cannot do that, and a shop front needs both of you online at once.
Picture the third evening of a wipe. Your group has boxes of low grade fuel and mountains of stone it will never use up, and nobody has scrap for the next blueprint. Put the fuel and stone up for scrap, and in the morning the payment is waiting in the machine. Solo players short on farming time buy that sort of thing all day.
The price is the catch early on. Three gears and 20 high quality metal at a Level 1 workbench hurt on day one, so most groups set one up once their furnaces run without a break.
Watch out
The machine's own text warns about its rear panel: whoever reaches it takes everything inside. Face the front out and keep the back inside your walls, and restock it from a box instead of leaving your whole surplus loaded.
