Characteristics
Overview
A small planter with enough room to plant 3 seeds.
Day two of a wipe is when most first crops go in, while tarps are still rare. The small box asks for one tarp and 100 wood with no workbench, and it takes three seeds. That single tarp is the point: early in a wipe you seldom hold two at once, and a large planter box wants both.
Say a road run gave you one tarp and a handful of hemp seeds. Put a small box in a bright corner of the base, plant, and the harvest turns into cloth while you save up for the big beds. It also fits where the large one will not: half a foundation, a balcony, the strip beside your furnaces.
Past the first few boxes the maths turns against it. Nine seeds cost three tarps in small boxes and two in a large one, so a real farm is built from large planters and the small ones fill the gaps. Watering works the same for both: a bucket at first, then a hose from a water catcher, and the box waters itself while you roam.

Direct hit, hard side, no duds. Beancan Grenade is a dud 15% of the time. Satchel Charge is a dud 20% of the time. A range runs from point blank to the far end of the bullet's falloff, fired from an Assault Rifle.
