Overview
Crude boarding plank thrown together from ruined floorboards, watch out for splinters.
Its game text calls it a boarding plank, thrown together from ruined floorboards, and that word boarding is the best clue to its job. Most likely it belongs with the boats players build at a boat building station: a board laid out from the deck so you can walk across to the shore or onto someone else's boat instead of swimming.
Picture your hull held by its anchor beside a rocky shore near a monument. Without a way across, every loot trip means a swim and a climb; with a plank, you step over and walk back with the loot. That is how it should work, but test it in game before you count on it.
The cost is gentle: 100 wood at a Level 1 workbench and 15 scrap to research. If you never put to sea, skip it. It sits with the odder pieces among the Items and does nothing for a base on land.

Direct hit, hard side, no duds. Beancan Grenade is a dud 15% of the time. Satchel Charge is a dud 20% of the time. A range runs from point blank to the far end of the bullet's falloff, fired from an Assault Rifle.
