Overview

In-game description
A vagabond staple. Use this repurposed oil barrel to stay warm.

Burn wood in it to stay warm and to throw some light around at night. The game sells it as a vagabond's oil barrel for keeping warm, and that is the job: a heater you stand around, not a kitchen.

Here is where it pays off. You live in the snow, you come back from a night farm run half frozen, and the camp fire is busy with meat. The barrel by the door warms you up without you touching the food. Feed it wood, light it, stand close.

It costs the same 100 wood as a camp fire and needs no bench, but it cannot be researched, so check that you actually have the blueprint before you plan around it. For a warm room inside the walls, the stone fireplace is the builder's pick; it has to go indoors against a wall. The skull fire pit warms, lights and cooks, but it is a Halloween item that eats a human skull.

Remember a burning barrel is a beacon in the dark. Put it out before you log off.

Raid cost

Direct hit, hard side, no duds. Beancan Grenade is a dud 15% of the time. Satchel Charge is a dud 20% of the time. A range runs from point blank to the far end of the bullet's falloff, fired from an Assault Rifle.

Recycling

Recycler

At power grid stage 2 a green recycler works at 60% instead of 50%. Yields depend on the recycler.
