Overview

In-game description
A Hitching post and Trough. Dismounting your horses here will keep them healthy and fed as long as it is kept stocked with food. Livestock will also eat from here if there's not enough grass nearby.

Build it the day a horse comes home with you. Ride up, dismount at the post, and by the game's own text the horse stays healthy and fed for as long as the trough holds food. Leave a horse loose by the base instead and you may well log in to find it gone, along with the single horse saddle on its back.

It is about as cheap as base furniture gets: 200 wood, no workbench, and no blueprint to learn: every player can craft it from the start. For the trough itself, ordinary crops do the job. Corn from your planters is the usual feed, and the text adds that livestock eat from it too when there is not enough grass nearby.

Tip

Fill it before you log off, not after you log in. Two horses tied up by the compound with a trough full of corn are still standing there the next evening, ready for the ride out to a monument.

Put it inside a ring of animal fence, gate facing your door. Horses fed at base also leave dung around, so a composter next to the pen turns the mess into fertilizer for the crops that end up back in the trough.
