Characteristics
Overview
An electronic lock. Locked and unlocked with four-digit code.
A door without a lock keeps nobody out, and this is the cheapest way to fix that for good. It needs no bench, just a hundred metal fragments, so it goes on the very first sheet metal door you hang, and on the Tool Cupboard right after.
The reason it beats a key lock is simple. A key sits in your inventory and drops when you die, so the roamer who catches you at a node walks home with your front door. A code lives in your head. Whoever wants in has to break the door itself.
Look at the lock, hold E, set the main code and lock it. Anyone who types the right code is remembered by the lock, so your team enters it once, not at every login. The guest code opens the door without letting anyone change it, handy for a friend who visits but is not in the group. Change the main code and the list of people it remembers starts over.
Watch out
No 1234, no 0000, no birth year, no code from an old server. A wrong guess shocks whoever tries it, but an obvious code still gets guessed. And if a teammate leaves on bad terms, change the code that same evening.
