Overview
A military issue belt-fed machine gun that must be spun up to fire. Fires rapidly at the expense of movement speed.
The minigun is a base gun that happens to be portable. You get it from loot only: heavy scientists on the Oil Rigs drop it now and then, and locked crates, including the rig and Ghost Ship ones, can roll it too. There is no blueprint to learn.
It chews through 5.56 rifle ammo and also takes the HV, explosive and incendiary variants. You have to spin the barrels up before anything comes out, and you walk slowly while firing, so whoever peeks you first usually wins.
Pros
Cons
- Enormous sustained fire for holding a doorway or a roof
- So many rounds in the air that a group pushing one spot is easy to hit
- Runs on the same ammo as your rifles
- Spin-up delay loses you snap fights
- Cannot be repaired, so every belt costs durability for good
- Only reloads near a Level 2 workbench or better
That last point decides everything. Once the belt runs dry on a roam, you are carrying a very heavy club. Keep it on a roof or behind a window during an online raid, and take an M249 or a normal rifle when you want pressure away from home.
