Characteristics
Overview
Pumpkin Seeds can be found when picking wild Pumpkin plants. These seeds can be planted in the ground and grown to collect additional food. Planting these seeds in a planter, and then watering them with large quantities of water yields significantly more pumpkins and faster growth.
Most players read only the first half of the seed's text. That half says the seeds come from picking wild pumpkin plants and can go straight into the ground. The second half is the useful one: in a planter, watered with large quantities of water, you get significantly more pumpkins and faster growth. Large quantities is the part people underestimate.
Picture a base on a dry hill far from any river. You plant three seeds in a small planter box, water it once by hand, then spend two evenings raiding. When you come back the box is dry and the plants look sorry for themselves. Hand watering only works for someone who is home all day.
A small water catcher fixes that. Its own description says it collects water from rain and dew and can be connected to other entities, so a catcher on the roof piped into the planter keeps it wet while you are away. It needs a Level 1 workbench, which most bases have on day one.
Every seed comes up with its own genes. When one plant stands out, move on to clones of it and feed the weak ones to the composter. The pumpkins go to dinner, pies and lanterns.
