Overview

In-game description
A primitive helmet made from bone. Moderate protection from projectiles and melee damage.

Bow fights on the first day are won by whoever takes the first arrow to the head and keeps walking. A helmet that costs thirty bone fragments and fifteen cloth pays for itself the first time somebody lands one. No bench, nothing to research, and the game promises moderate protection from projectiles and melee for that price.

Its twin is the wood armor helmet: the same 100 durability, also known to everyone from the start, but a hundred and fifty wood instead of bones. Wood is what your first base is made of, while bones pile up after every hunt with nowhere to go, so on a hunting day the skull is the cheaper pick in practice. It also pairs naturally with bone armor, since both come out of the same carcasses.

Do not get attached. With a Level 1 bench and thirty scrap for research, twenty metal fragments buy a bucket helmet with twice the durability, and the bone one goes into the recycler for about half its bones back.
