Bone Armor

Day-one armour made from what a hunt leaves behind: seventy bones and some cloth, no bench needed. It stops little and breaks fast, but it is there.

Overview

In-game description
A primitive suit of armor made of bones, weak protection from damage and the elements but better than nothing.

Use it to get through the first hour, when a stray arrow from a beach rat still decides who keeps the loot. You probably have the bones already. A hunting bow and a few deer leave a pile of bone fragments that nothing else on day one burns through as quickly, and fifteen cloth turns them into a suit.

It needs no bench and no research: every player can craft it from the start, so you can skip the research table and spend that scrap elsewhere. The game itself calls the protection weak, and 100 durability will not carry you through many fights. Think of it as padding against bows, spears and the odd revolver round. Anything with a magazine goes straight through the plan.

Its rival is the wood chestplate. That one costs wood you farm anyway, but it only has 75 durability, so the bone suit lasts a little longer and leaves your wood for the base. Pick by which pile is bigger. Once a Level 2 bench and some road signs show up, put the bones into a recycler; it gives back a good part of them.
