The blueprint sits at a Level 2 workbench, yet neither part of the bill is a Level 2 craft. Road signs and sewing kits both wait for Level 3, so for most of a wipe the armour is put together from whatever road barrels and crates hand you. Unfold the signs and they become 8 high quality metal and a pile of scrap: that is what a crafted set costs later on.
The signs are the fight. Your own road sign jacket and kilt want them too, and a horse takes more than both together. Plate yourself first, then the horse that tows your siege engine.
Tip
Research it only once a siege is planned. For a horse that just carries you to the ore, wooden armour costs wood and rope, and every player knows it from the start.
