You cannot craft the double saddle, whatever bench this page shows. It has no blueprint to learn, so every one in a wipe is loot or a trade, and the calculator prices what you are already holding rather than a plan.
Against the single saddle it carries one more road sign and one more sewing kit. Unfolded, that is more high quality metal than the roadsign horse armour costs, which tells you how much loot sits on that second seat.
So the choice is a passenger or the recycler. A duo that rides together keeps it: one steers, the other covers the road. A solo sends it to the recycler for about half the signs and a kit or two, and those go straight into armour you will actually wear.
