About this craft
Count tarps before you count wood. The station takes one tarp, and a boat that has to move without fuel needs a sail with a second one, so the first boat costs two. Nobody can craft or research a tarp, whatever the unfolded calculator says about cloth: tarps come from road loot, the recycler and trades, and the planters at home want them as well.
All the research sits on the Level 1 bench. Learn the station together with the Boat Building Plan, the tool that actually lays out the hull, and the steering wheel. Without the plan the station is just a platform on the water. Every one of these blueprints is cheap, so one player can take the whole kit in one sitting.
Tip
Short on tarps? Skip the sail, not the station. A small boat engine moves the hull without any tarp at all, once you have a Level 2 bench and gears.
