Overview
A medium damage machine gun.
If you want a military-grade gun you can actually make on repeat, this is a strong pick. Many guns in that class only ever come from loot, while the MP5 can be researched and crafted once you own a Level 3 workbench. Many players say that alone makes it the gun to mass-produce for mid-wipe raids and defense.
It fires the same pistol bullets as your sidearm, HV and incendiary included, so you are not splitting your ammo stash between calibres. Up close the recoil is easy to hold and it shreds anyone in a corridor. Push the range out, though, and the wide spread starts wasting rounds.
The fix most people reach for is a lasersight, which tightens the cone enough to fight at medium range. A burst module fits it too, if you have one spare.
So when do you pick the Thompson instead? Mostly before you have Level 3. The Tommy is cheaper, sits on the Level 2 bench, and its bullets fly faster, which helps at range. Once the big bench is up, the MP5 usually takes over indoors.
