Characteristics
Overview
Corn seeds can be found when picking wild Corn plants. These seeds can be planted in the ground and grown to collect additional food. Planting these seeds in a planter, and then watering them with large quantities of water yields significantly more corn and faster growth.
A farm that feeds you without a hunt starts with these. You do not craft them: the game text says they turn up when you pick wild corn plants, so a detour through a field on the first evening usually leaves you with a few.
On day one you can push them straight into the ground next to your base. They grow there, and early on that beats carrying them around. But the seed's own text is blunt about the better option: in a planter, watered with plenty of water, you get significantly more corn and faster growth. A small planter box costs one tarp and some wood and needs no bench, so move the farm into boxes as soon as the first tarp turns up in a crate.
Every seed comes up with its own genes, so the first bed is a mix. Pick the weak plants as they ripen, let the best one keep growing and take clones from it. From then on seeds are only the backup for when the farm gets wiped.
The ears go to your stomach or the horse trough as plain corn, and plants that die off go into the composter.
