Overview

In-game description
Strong metal object.

Hang on to the first one a barrel gives you, especially if your base is on the coast. A single tank, some cloth and a few frags make a water purifier, and that ends the long walks inland for a drink. The same single tank is the awkward part of a speargun, so a group that plans to dive for sunken loot wants a second one.

Defence eats them in pairs. Every flame turret takes two, and so does the craftable flamethrower. A propane explosive bomb needs one tank plus 450 gunpowder, which tells you the tank is the cheap half of that recipe.

Once you have a Level 2 workbench, research it for 30 scrap. After that a tank costs 100 metal fragments and 10 scrap, so a turret corridor stops waiting on barrel luck. Recycling works badly the other way: a tank breaks down into 40 to 75 metal fragments and barely a scrap. Recycle the spares you looted if you are short on frags, never ones you crafted.
