Handmade Fishing Rod

No bench, two ropes and some wood: the cheapest food engine on a coastal spawn. It only works with bait, so bring worms or grubs before you cast.

Overview

In-game description
Use [attack2] to cast out the line and wait for a bite. Requires bait.

Food on a coast with no animals in sight. That is the rod's job, and early in a wipe it does it well: two ropes and some wood, no workbench, and nothing to research: every player knows it from the start.

Picture a beach spawn. A roamer took your bow, the deer ran off, and the water is right there. Sit on a rock at a river mouth with a stack of bait and you come home with fish to gut into raw fish for the campfire.

  1. Carry bait: worms and grubs are what the game itself names for it.
  2. Equip the rod and cast with the right mouse button.
  3. Wait for a bite, then reel in without letting the line snap.
  4. Gut the catch with a knife and cook it.

Reeling is the part newcomers rush. Pull too hard against a fish that is fighting back and the line breaks, taking the bait with it. If you would rather spend that time farming, a survival fish trap on the shore fishes for you while you are away.
