Overview
A rare fish found in the depths of the ocean. Eats everything, so you never know what you'll find in it's stomach.
Plan a trip for it, because it will not come to you. Its own text calls it rare and places it in the depths of the ocean, which rules out the river behind your base and the shallow water off most beaches. Cast from the shore and you mostly pull up the usual small fry.
So the roughy is a catch for groups that already sail. Say you and a teammate own a hull from the boat building station. On a quiet evening you take it out until the water turns dark, stop the boat and fish over the side with a handmade fishing rod. Only five fit in a slot, but a rare fish was never going to fill your pockets anyway.
Gut it with a knife and you get raw fish for the fire like any other catch. The game text also jokes that it eats everything, the same line the catfish and the salmon carry, so do not expect a better stomach just because the fish is rarer.
Or skip the knife. A rare deep-water fish is the kind of catch worth showing off on a fish trophy, and you cannot mount it once it is gutted.
