A bowless crossbow for fans of DIY

Same bench, same price, different look. The bowless version is a skin of the regular crossbow, with no blueprint of its own: you craft the crossbow from metal fragments, rope and wood at a Level 1 workbench and pick this look if the skin is yours. It even recycles into the same pile. So the only question is whether it shoots any differently.

We have not been able to confirm that it does. Load it the way you would load the crossbow: wooden arrows for everyday shots, high velocity arrows when you want a faster, flatter arrow and can live with less damage.

Tip

Before a roam, put a few arrows into a wall from the distances you expect to fight at. If the drop and the reload feel like the crossbow's, carry whichever one you have. If they do not, you found out on a wall instead of on a player.

There is nothing to research for either: every player can craft the crossbow from the start, so spend your early scrap on something that actually changes your fights.
