Wheat Clone

Seeds come free from eating wheat, so a clone looks pointless. It is not: every seed rolls new genes, while a clone repeats your best plant.

Overview

In-game description
A Clipping of a Wheat Plant.

Wheat refills its own seed pile. Eat a bundle and, by the wheat seed text, seeds can turn up, so a group that farms it is rarely short of something to plant. That makes the clone look like extra work for nothing.

The difference is what comes up. Every seed is a new roll: some plants grow fast, some slowly, some give little at all. A clone is a cutting from a plant you already watched grow, and it comes up as that same plant again. Seeds give you more wheat plants. Clones give you more of your best one.

Picture a duo with one large planter box and a teammate who keeps replanting from seed because it costs nothing. Every round the box is a lottery, and the harvest swings with it. Fill the nine slots with clones of the plant that did best, and the box gives the same result round after round.

Whether that is worth your time depends on how much wheat you get through. If your Cooking Workbench never asks for it, seeds are plenty.
