Only the pad itself is a Level 1 craft. The calculator counts the gear and the metal spring as is, because almost nobody crafts them that early. Unfold them and both become Level 3 crafts with blueprints of their own, adding 150 scrap to the bill. Until that bench stands, every pad is built from parts you found.
Springs come back out of recycled guns, a broken pump shotgun or a spare SMG among them. Gears come out of shotgun traps, ladder hatches and other junk you feed the recycler. Set a few of each aside from day one, since armored doors and rifles want them too.
Once the parts are there, the pad is a trigger that needs no tech trash at all. Wire it to a smart alarm in the loot room or in front of a Tesla coil, and it decides when either one wakes up. A pad in the recycler gives the gear and the spring back only half the time each, so rework the circuit around it rather than scrap it.
