Treat the coil as ammunition, not furniture. Its own text says it loses durability with use, and every coil you wear out and replace is another piece of tech trash, the part no bench makes and a C4 wants two of. The blueprint is cheap and the metal is pocket change; what keeps costing you is the circuitry.
So keep its shifts short. Wire it behind a pressure pad and it only draws power, and only wears, while someone is standing in the corridor. A small generator or a battery feeds it, and more power makes it hit harder.
Short on tech trash? A shotgun trap holds a door with none at all, paid in gears and rope instead. Save coils for the airlock and the loot room door, and leave the rest of the pile for raids.
