Read the battery ladder line by line. The small battery is high quality metal and nothing else. This one is the same metal plus one piece of tech trash, and the large doubles both lines. Between medium and large the bench, the research and the craft time stay put, so the choice is made in your box of circuit boards.
That box rarely holds an even number. Charges take tech trash in pairs, so once the raid stock is set aside there is often one piece no C4 can use. That single piece is a medium battery, and a duo's lights plus a turret by the door seldom need more.
Don't craft it before its source, though. Without panels or a small generator to fill it, the battery is a dead box on the wall.
