Chainsaw

Blades, high quality metal and two gears at a Level 2 bench. The gears decide it: their own craft waits for Level 3, so early saws run on looted gears.

About this craft

Two gears are the whole problem. The saw itself is a Level 2 blueprint, but gears only become craftable at a Level 3 bench, and there each one burns a heap of scrap. Unfold the recipe and the scrap comes to 260, almost all of it in the gears. So in the mid wipe your chainsaw waits on crates, road barrels and whatever gears fall out of the recycler.

The six metal blades are the easy part once their blueprint is in, and the high quality metal is a small slice of one furnace run. Queue the blades days ahead; they keep in a box.

Before you spend gears here, ask what else wants them. Armored doors and hatches eat gears too, and a door does more for the group than faster trees. If the wood just needs to keep coming, the salvaged axe asks for no gears and no fuel.
