Rust building guides
A good base is cheap to keep and expensive to break. The guides in this section show how to build one: where to put it, how to lay out the rooms, which doors to hang and how to keep the upkeep low enough that the tool cupboard never runs dry.
Every piece you place has a grade, and each grade has double the health of the one below: a wood wall has 250 HP, stone 500, sheet metal 1,000 and armored 2,000. Doors are usually the cheapest way into a base, so the choice between a wooden door, a sheet metal door and a garage door matters as much as the walls around it.
You will find base designs for solo players and groups, airlocks and honeycombing, and what each layer costs a raider, with the same numbers as our raid cost guide.
