How Rust's mechanics work
Rust rarely explains its rules. How much damage a hit really does, why a wall survives a charge, how fast an abandoned base decays: all of it is in the game's files, and the guides in this section read it from there instead of guessing.
Take explosions. Stone, sheet metal and armored walls all take half of the explosion damage that hits them, while wooden doors take double, which is why one C4 opens a wooden door and a stone wall needs two. Explosive rifle rounds lose part of their bullet damage between 20 m and 100 m, which is why their counts come as a range.
The same approach covers protection and armor, decay and upkeep, electricity with its batteries, solar panels and wires, and the crafting numbers behind every item on this site.
