Overview

In-game description
Cooked pork, Eating it will restore some health, hunger, and thirst.

Boars are the first animal most players kill on purpose, and dinner is rarely the reason. The first furnace wants low grade fuel, the fuel wants animal fat, and a boar is the nearest walking source of fat on the map. The meat comes along for free.

So the raw pork in your pocket is a by-product, but a useful one. Raw, it hurts you, as its own text says. Cooked, the game promises some health, hunger and thirst, which on day one with no bottle and no berries is a decent deal.

The trick is where you cook it. Once the furnace is lit for ore, a free slot takes a few pieces of pork, so one fire does both jobs and your wood goes further. The catch is that a furnace runs for a long time.

Watch out

Come back for the pork before the ore is done. Left in the heat it turns into burnt pork, and the game's own joke about it says the little piggy stayed in the oven too long. That one feeds you far worse.
