Overview
A clipping of a Black Berry Plant.
Your best plant, copied. A seed is a gamble on genes; a clone is a cutting taken from a living black berry plant, and it grows into that same plant again. That is the whole reason it exists.
Say your first round of black berry seeds came up mixed, and one plant in the corner shows mostly growth and yield genes. Take clones from it while it is still growing. Plant them across a large planter box and the next round is nine copies of the good one instead of nine new gambles.
Keep the copies together. Plants in one bed can pass genes to their neighbours as they grow, so a stray weak plant beside your clones can spoil the line. A bed of nothing but clones from one parent stays clean.
What you pick at the end is ordinary black berries for the tea table. The clone is only the middle step that saves you from starting over every round.
