About this craft
No bench and no research table will make this upgrade. Every one is loot or a trade, so the Level 1 line on this page never unlocks anything. Read the bill as the value of what sits in your box: five gears and some scrap, and the gears are the part that counts.
That turns the decision into gears or speed. The ordinary recycler hands back two gears and a coin flip on a third, never the scrap. Five gears would hang a high external stone gate, so three is most of one.
Keep it on the bench where one player crafts for the whole group. Long queues of ammo and meds speed up with every finished item, as its item page explains. A solo who crafts a door and a few arrows a day saves minutes and should take the gears. Found the Efficiency upgrade as well and short on gears? Break this one down: it returns more than that one would.
