Every door you want covered costs two gears and two ropes, and neither comes off a Level 1 bench. Rope comes off no bench at all: it is loot, from barrels, crates and recycled bows. Gears wait for Level 3, and unfolding them adds 200 scrap to the bill. The trap's own blueprint is a cheap Level 1 pick, so for most of a wipe every trap is assembled from road barrels, crates and the recycler.
Those parts have other buyers. Armored doors and ladder hatches want the gears, satchels and bows want the rope. Give the first trap to the airlock behind your front door and decide on the rest when the box allows.
Tip
Craft a stack of handmade shells in the same session. The trap fires nothing else, and an empty one guards nothing.
A worn trap is half of the next one: the ordinary recycler hands back a gear and a rope. Once high quality metal is spare, an auto turret covers a whole room, and the trap stays the cheap guard for one door.
