Decorative Baubels

Shiny balls for the branches, and the cheapest of the ornaments that cost metal rather than wood. One costs 100 metal fragments with no workbench, and it hangs on the Christmas tree like the rest. It does nothing else: no loot, no light, no protection.

That price is the only real decision. On day one those fragments are your first tools and a door, so a fresh duo should leave the baubels for later and dress the tree with the wooden gingerbread men instead. A week in, when the furnaces have been running for days, nobody misses a hundred frags.

After the holidays a recycler gives back part of the metal and a little scrap, so the box of ornaments is not a total loss.
