Characteristics
Overview
Allows unlocking any tech tree item regardless of progression. Cost is doubled and there is a 25% chance of failure that still consumes resources.
Use it when you want one blueprint deep in a tech tree and have no interest in everything in front of it. The game text is blunt about the deal: any tech tree item can be unlocked regardless of progression, the cost is doubled, and there is a 25% chance of failure that still eats the resources.
So one try in four burns the doubled price for nothing, and on average you pay well over twice the normal cost. That is a bad trade for a group that will buy the whole tree anyway. It can be a good one for a solo who just found a stash full of scrap and wants one particular gun before the weekend raids start.
Before you gamble, check whether you can research the item instead. If one is already in your box, the research table is usually the cheaper road and it never fails.
The upgrade itself cannot be crafted or researched, so it only comes from loot or a trade, and a spare one recycles into a gear and a piece of tech trash. It works in the opposite spirit to the Salvage upgrade, which makes every unlock at its bench a fifth cheaper in scrap and rewards buying the tree step by step.
Recycling
At power grid stage 2 a green recycler works at 60% instead of 50%. Yields depend on the recycler.
