Primitive weapon, perfect for hunting your foes. Can be upgraded to Stone Spear.

Fresh spawn, a rock in hand, and a wolf already circling. With the rock you trade hits at face range and lose. So hit the nearest tree until you have enough wood and craft a spear on the spot, no bench needed. The extra reach lets you poke the wolf before it reaches you, and then it is dinner.

Against other players it holds up while everyone is still naked. The moment someone shows up with a bow, you lose that range war, so save the spear for fights you can actually close.

Watch out

A thrown spear looks great on a clip, but a miss leaves you empty-handed in front of the guy you just angered. Throw only when nobody can punish you, like at a fleeing deer.

Do not get attached either. Add stones and it becomes a stone spear, the version worth carrying once you have a minute to spare.
