Baseball Bat

Same price and bench as the Mace, but it trades heavy blows for quicker swings. Craft it if you'd rather hit often than hit hard in an early fight.

Overview

In-game description
A baseball bat wrapped in barbed wire

Grab the bat for all the jobs that are not worth a bullet: finishing a downed player, cracking barrels on a road run, chasing off a naked who wandered into your farming spot. It winds up faster than the heavy two-handers, so a missed swing costs you less.

Its real rival is the Mace. Both need a Level 1 workbench and the same pile of wood and metal fragments, so the choice comes down to feel. The mace lands fewer, heavier blows and forgives sloppy aim. The bat lands more, lighter ones and suits players who time their swings well.

Picture a fresh wipe: you are hitting a stone node, someone runs at you with a spear, and your bow is sitting in a box. With the bat in the hotbar you can trade hits instead of running. But once you can spare a metal blade, a salvaged sword lasts longer and does more per swing, and that is where most players leave the bat behind.
