Overview
Suitable fuel to power quarries and the giant excavator.
Diesel exists to start the big machines you do not own. The quarries at the quarry monuments and the giant excavator run on it, and in return they dig resources you would otherwise farm by hand for hours. There is no recipe, so every barrel comes from loot.
Do not confuse it with the fuel in your base. A mining quarry you place yourself and your minicopter run on low grade fuel, and diesel does nothing for them.
The usual play: you pull a few barrels out of crates over a day, then carry them to the sulfur quarry while the server is quiet. Drop them into the fuel slot, wait it out nearby and leave with sulfur ore instead of a sore pickaxe arm. The stone quarry does the same with stones, and the excavator is the big version for a group that can hold the monument.
Tip
Fuel it, hide close by and keep your eyes on the output box. A running quarry can be heard from a distance, and one left alone hands its ore to whoever shows up first.
