Nothing in the box tells a triangle hatch from a square one. The bill matches the square ladder hatch part for part, so the gears, the wooden ladder and the fragments you set aside serve either shape. Gather them first and choose at the bench.
Watch out
Choose by looking at the frame, not from memory. A square hatch will not go into a triangle floor frame, and recycling the wrong one brings back half the fragments, a gear or two, and the ladder only half the time.
The blueprint is its own research, separate from the square one, at the Level 2 workbench. Learn it only when your way up really runs through a triangle; a compact triangle core is the usual reason. Later, when that core goes armoured, the armoured triangle hatch takes over the same frame, and everything you learned here except the hatch itself is still of use.
