Taking these pills will lower your radiation level. WARNING: May cause extreme dehydration.
Swallow them on the way out of a monument, when radiation has built up and you would rather not carry it home. They pull your radiation level down. They do not stop new radiation from building, so taking them before you walk in buys you nothing.
Nothing in the crafting menu makes them, every pack comes from loot, and you rarely hold many. That is why nobody plans around them. What keeps you alive in a hot monument is a hazmat suit or other clothing with radiation protection, and a Geiger counter tells you how hot the next room is before you step in.
The warning on the pack is meant seriously. After the pills you can end up close to bone dry, and thirst eats your health just like radiation does. So fill a water jug or a bottle first, then swallow.
Tip
By its own description a Rad. Removal Tea also takes some radiation off, and you can make it at home instead of waiting for pills to show up in a crate.
